Announcing our

April Featured Artist

RetiredRecords

I am a artist and social worker trying to keep balance in my life. The creative side of me, keeps me sane. I love working with recycled materials and making items no longer useful functional again. I have a BFA in Fine Arts, with a degree in Art Therapy and a Masters Degree in Social Work. I have an organic garden and I compost my food scraps and recycle household garbage when possible. I love vintage clothing and try to sew on occasion. I love a challenge so if you have any questions please feel free to ask away. Most of my items are one-of-a-kind but can be duplicated to a degree.

With celebrities like Mariel Hemingway discussing, "How to Green Yourself" and Nigel Barker who is a world-renowned photographer who talks about his plight to save the seals... this expo is certainly the "Place to Be". We've purchased a virtual booth here, which means we will be online for the expo and available for one year through their website.

We've also purchased an ad in the New York Post, to coincide with the Expo, which is handed out to everyone attending as an Expo Guide.

Visit the exhibit directory and you'll see earths-journey there as an exhibitor, showing the world the items that YOU'VE created. Make sure you're exhibit is up and your best work is showing. This event in April 17-19, 2009.

If anyone will be in the New York area and would like to meet up with me, please email me: earthsjourneyts@yahoo.com.

Let's hear from some of our Artists!

Lark Gallery

Artist Statement:

As the daughter of a Russian-Jewish geologist, surrounded with beautiful minerals, semi-precious stones and natural relics, I developed from my childhood an ability to hear inner voices of objectsaround me. When I arrived in the US and met a group of non-conformist artists from the former Soviet Union I was inspired to use this ability in my art.For me each object has a voice, whether it's the rasp of a rusted metal mechanism, the nostalgic whisper of a silk tissue or the rural chatter of a wooden spoon. By putting all these materials together I orchestrate the music of found objects and thus find my own uniquevoice.Using the interaction of spiritual meditation and found objects I encourage images to appear from my subconscious. In the beginning I was not using any coloring substances, later I started taking a more fluid approach to my art, including paint in it and just as often abandoning collage altogether to conjure real and imagined spacesentirely from pigments.I acknowledge, however, that in order to attract attention of younger generations, accustomed to computers, art must be interactive. Therefore, I envision creating large scale and three-dimensionalpanoramic paintings-collages and installations into which participants can "enter" and experience the wonder of art and nature. On the walls will be buttons to push in order to hear my poetry and accompanying music.

Artist Maeco, aka MAriska's paintings celebarte Mother Earth and Nature. Besides the 10% that is donated to an environmental charity with earths-journey each year, she donates 30 percent of each painting for a project in her home of Tamil Nadu which is donated to homeless aged women. Along with her gracious donation, she also donates Tree and Herbal Gardens; gives to a home for animals and donates time and money for a school for village girls.

Her statement in all her paintings is: "Get in contact with the healing energies of Mother Earth and Nature. If you spontaneously like one of my paintings, it is probably the special healing energy of Mother Earth and Nature you need in your life". I think that says it all!

Ever Want to Live Out A Dream?

I know this is not my usual blog about how we can help save the world by recycling... however I really wanted to get the word out about living out your dream.

Everything that I've seen or heard recently, regarding people being in their own business, and having success, all boils down to passion that they have. If you have a passion for something, you are LUCKY if you can make it into a business for yourself. There is no other happiness in the world then doing something you love and having the ability to make a living with that passion. I've spent most of my life searching for my passion, and finally found it in the creativity of wonderful artists and crafters. I truly love talent and am passionate about spreading the word of how incredible Eco-Artists and Crafters are, more so than a usual artist or crafter.

This brings me to my point. I found a website that can make your dreams come true. I remember being a small girl wanting so much to be an actress when I grew up... but life gets in the way and those dreams sometimes just stay dreams. I've often thought, what if? I wonder if I would have been successful and could I have possibly been Mrs. BrangaTina! (Oh that Brad Pitt!).

If you've ever wondered like me, what if... or even if you've wanted to try doing something else for a living, but just don't know how to go about it; or if you're like me and like a learning vacation rather than sitting on a beach somewhere relaxing - I have an answer for you.

http://www.vocationvacations.com/

This is an incredible website that offers you the chance to pursue or even just taste another world. It offers you a one-on-one mentorship with a person who is in the field you've always dreamed of, for a few days. It's a vocation vacation! This gives you the opportunity to see what life is like as a Radio Personality, or a Chef. We've all seen the movie "City Slickers" well now you can find out what it's really like to own and operator your own Cattle Ranch. One of the coolest and newest vacations that they offer is: Want to be an Archaeologist? WOW, can you imagine that? Spending a weekend with a real Archaeologist and digging right along with them and possibly finding a piece of history that no one has seen in hundreds and hundreds of years?

Here's one for my artists and crafters... ever wondered if you could take your talents and open up your own Gallery???? You can find out by taking a vacation with someone who did just that. They took their own skills and talents and now run their own successful Gallery. Now don't get me wrong, these vacations are not cheap... but to someone who has always wondered, WHAT IF... they are worth their weight in gold. You can find out what if, you can change your vocation, you can change your life. Do you know what a Luthier is? Either did I! It's a guitar maker, and yes, you can experience what life would be like if this was your dream.

Another opportunity this website offers - not only can you go and find out what your true vocation vacation is, but you can also be a mentor as well. Have you ever wanted to teach people about your own talent? I remember meeting a woman at a juried exhibition and began talking to her about her outstanding pottery. She told me that everything she uses, from her kiln to her glazes were all environmentally friendly (yes, I am getting her to show her talents on http://www.earths-journey.com/), and she was so excited about the possibility of teaching others how to be more eco-friendly while keeping true to their personal talent. Well this would be a great opportunity for her, she can be a one-on-one mentor to someone who has always dreamed of wheel throwing for the environment.

I just think this is an incredible opportunity for a lot of people. Finding out what your life could be like with a totally different vocation! Finding out what it would be like to be a Sea Captain, or a Milner it gives you a vision of a possible future, or a glimpse of a life completely different from what you know. It could also be a reality check of how good your life is right now, I'm sure each person comes out of this experience with their own realities.

Please let me know if anyone finds out their true calling from one of these vacations, I'd love to hear all about it!
